By far the most abundant game birds we have here in the Northwest are the sporty Valley Quail. Sometimes it is a challenge to find the right terrain to hunt them with big running Pointing Dogs. But when we do, it is absolutely my favorite way to enjoy my dogs. When the stars a line, these birds hold tight, they present frequent opportunities for young dogs to point and they are a challenge to shoot. I remember shooting a lot of limits of Quail over flushing dogs as a kid. Things have changed for sure but I still feel that youth when I am in the field chasing these crafty game birds with the Top Knot.
